Electronic Keyboard Syllabus 2019-2022
Electronic Keyboard: Initial
PIECES
The following pieces are in Trinity’s Electronic Keyboard Pieces & Technical Work 2019–2022: Initial. Candidates play a balanced programme of three pieces, chosen from the lists below.
- Lullaby (Wiegenlied)
- Rock to the Roll
- Largo (from Symphony no. 9, ‘From the New World’)
- Little Brown Jug
- Voi, che sapete (from The Marriage of Figaro)
- Edelweiss (from The Sound of Music)
- Little Buttercup (from HMS Pinafore)
- Michael Row the Boat (Own interpretation piece)
- The Skye Boat Song
- Spring (from The Four Seasons)
TECHNICAL WORK
Candidates prepare either section 1. or section 2.
All requirements are in Trinity’s Electronic Keyboard Pieces & Technical Work 2019–2022: Initial.
Either
1. SCALES & CHORD KNOWLEDGE (from memory) — Examiners select from the following:
C major, A minor (harmonic or melodic or natural minor), C major Pentatonic (5notes), A minor Pentatonic (5notes) HANDS SEPARATELY ON MINIMUM 60 TEMPO
Chromatic scale starting on D (RH only or LH only)
Triad of C major and A minor (root position)
OR
2. EXERCISES (music may be used) — Candidates prepare all three exercises.
Candidates choose one exercise to play first. Examiners then select one of the remaining two exercises to be performed.
Bossa Boy – keyboard functions

Windfall – pianistic exercise
SUPPORTING TESTS
Candidates choose two of the following:
- Sight Reading
- Aural

Electronic Keyboard: Grade 1
PIECES
The following pieces are in Trinity’s Electronic Keyboard Pieces & Technical Work 2019–2022: Grade 1. Candidates play a balanced programme of three pieces, chosen from the lists below.
- Pastoral (theme from Symphony no. 6) BEETHOVEN
- Land of Hope and Glory (Pomp and Circumstance March no. 1)
- Footloose (Own interpretation Piece)
- Unfinished Symphony (theme from Symphony no. 8)
- Whirling Dervishes
- Cockles and Mussels
- English Country Garden
- Shaker Tune
- Star of County Down

TECHNICAL WORK
Candidates prepare section 1. and either section 2. or section 3.

Either
1. KEYBOARD EXERCISE (music may be used)
Candidates should play one of the following scales in the RH, accompanied by chords I and V in the LH, as illustrated in Electronic Keyboard Pieces & Technical Work 2019–2022: Grade 1.
◗ G major or D harmonic minor
2. SCALES & CHORD KNOWLEDGE (from memory) — Examiners select from the following:
- G major, D minor (harmonic or melodic or natural minor), Dorian scale on G and D, G major Pentatonic, D minor Pentatonic – HANDS SEPARATELY (One Octave) ON MINIMUM 70 TEMPO
- Blues scale on D (RH only, straight or swung)
- Chromatic scale in contrary motion starting on D (hands Together)
- Chord progression of I-V-I in the following keys: G major, D minor (RH only or LH only)
OR
3. EXERCISES (music may be used) — Candidates prepare all three exercises.
Candidates choose one exercise to play first. Examiners then select one of the remaining two exercises to be performed.
- Left Right, Left Right – Keyboard Function Exercise
- Morning Stretch – scalic exercise

- Chromatic scale in similar motion starting on F (hands Together)
- Chord progression of I-IV-V7-I in the following keys: F major, E minor (RH only or LH only)
OR
